07-45 The Tasting Room Yakima at Wilridge Vineyard

Wilridge

Yakima, WA

The Tasting Room Yakima sits on eighty gorgeous acres of vineyards, orchard and sage-land bluffs above the Cowiche Canyon nature preserve. As a former farming cottage transformed into a tasting venue for three boutique Washington wineries, The Tasting Room is purposefully inviting and casual. The adjacent, newly planted vineyard is being organically managed and includes twenty-two grape varietals planted on an experimental basis, representing the classic wine regions of Europe, including France, Italy, Spain and Portugal.

Traho Architects prepared both land use/zoning and building department/code evaluation and submittals to Yakima County Public Services for the conversion of the existing house and its surrounding site for this new public use - an area of economic development that has just begun to have an impact in Yakima County. Our detailed process of professional services were specifically tailored to the nature of this project and included:

  • Site planning; parking area
  • Development of fire department access
  • Code research and documentation
  • Provision for picnic areas, trails connecting to Cowiche Canyon, and outdoor event space
  • Meetings with various jurisdictional agencies including the Yakima Health District as well as several Yakima County Departments
  • Approval of the kitchen for (commercial) catering use
  • As-built drawings
  • Design alterations to accommodate barrier-free, handicapped accessibility

Project goals were all successfully accomplished with the opening of this unique facility. The wrap-around porch is now a very popular place to relax and take in the view.
